Intercultural Reflection Module Published: Supporting Lasting Intercultural Learning After Mobility

The PADMICA Intercultural Reflection Module is now available, offering higher education institutions and students a practical way to extend the learning impact of international mobility experiences.

International mobility creates valuable opportunities for intercultural learning, but meaningful development does not happen automatically. Preparation before departure and structured reflection after returning are equally important for helping students understand, connect with, and apply what they have experienced. Together, these stages create the context needed to strengthen intercultural learning, and turn short-term experiences into long-lasting competences.

The Intercultural Reflection Module builds on the concepts introduced during the preparation phase. It guides students in analysing their intercultural encounters, recognising their personal development, and transferring their learning into future academic, professional, and multicultural environments. By creating space for reflection, the module helps ensure that important insights gained during mobility are not lost once students return home.

To support flexible implementation across institutions, all materials are now available. The module includes an online component designed to prepare and structure individual reflection, alongside resources for facilitated in-person sessions, including a slide deck and supporting script.

The publication of the PADMICA Intercultural Reflection Module marks an important step towards making mobility experiences more meaningful and sustainable. By combining preparation with post-mobility reflection, higher education institutions can help students transform international experiences into lasting intercultural competences that continue to support them in their studies, careers, and everyday interactions across cultures.
